What am I doing? - Guild Wars Forums

I have recently started playing Guild Wars.
I bought the Guild Wars:Game of the Year Edition a few years back and never really got into it. But now I have found the CD's and it sparked my interest once again.

For the past few weeks I have been running around this dreadful dark area fill with evil creatures doing quests and adventuring out. Currently level 7 E/R

But my question is... Am i missing out of something? Am I not doing something right? I feel that I am missing out on something that everyone else has.

Also, a guild. What are the advantages of joining one and can it be related to a clan in other games?

You should hit L which will bring up your quest log and check to see if you have any Primary Quests. These quests are required to advance in the storyline and all other quests do not have to be completed. You're free to do them if you want the experience or rewards. Wiki has a list of Prophecies Missions as well as the quests needed to get through the storyline. You can click on the names of the quests and missions for more information if you need. :]

As for a guild, a guild is mainly for social purposes. You can join guilds that focus on certain things such as high end PvE (which you're not ready to do) or PvP. You can also join a social guild with members who are willing to help you progress through the game and answer you questions. I see no reason why it can't be related to a clan in another game.

You are probably situated in the post-searing Ascalon area. In my opinion the ugliest part of the game and indeed very dreary looking. It's supposed to reflect the destruction of the beautiful pre-searing Ascalon where you started. Don't worry. Once you move on a couple of missions you will get to much better looking areas (snowy mountain peaks, grassy lowlands, beaches, forests, deserts etc.).

Joining a PvE guild that accepts or is targeted towards new players will certainly enrich your play experience. With guilds come regular allies who you can ask questions about the game, who can help you with quests/missions and who become your online friends. Don't be afraid to join a guild. On the other hand, also don't be afraid to leave a guild if it doesn't suit you. There are many guilds oriented for different types of players.

That sounds like a great idea! Do you know of any guilds off the top of your head that are like that? Also, do guild commonly use Vent or Teamspeak? Because I am very used to them.

There's a section on these forums dedicated to players looking for guilds and guilds looking for players. Just scroll down a bit on the the Forum's main page and you'll hit it. And yes, many guilds use either Vent of Teamspeak. (I think most use Vent now-a-days.)
